Legends of Catopia
Fast-paced MOBA
Duke it out against your friends in exciting PvP modes, or fight alongside them through hordes of enemies in a survival mode! A multitude of unlockable champions to level up and customize: including items, skins and chromas!

My responsibilities in Legends of Catopia:
Software Engineering and Programming:
-
Architected and wrote the entire game code: Seamlessly integrated front-end and back-end functionalities, resulting in a consistent and fluid gameplay experience.
-
Highly optimized across diverse mobile platforms, and almost all processing units. Can run on any device with 768 RAM or higher. Notably, even with high visual fidelity, the game maintains a steady 60 FPS on a lot of low-end devices.
-
The game code was split into three categories, two frontend, and one backend:
-
Visual Simulation: This drives no gameplay logic and only draws what the simulation has. This uses OOP principles and is non deterministic.
-
Gameplay: The simulated game logic, and what the players share in the multiplayer experience. It is deterministic, and built on ECS principles.
-
Backend: The game utilizes Microsoft Azure Functions, RESTful API and PlayFab integration for player profile management, server behavior and authoritative code.
-
-
Independence from third-party assets/code: The game was built without the need for any external assets or code.
-
Developed a streamlined system to allow live and continuous content updates using a robust pipeline built on Unity’s addressable system, allowing the live-ops team full range of experimentation.
-
To accomplish the multiplayer aspect, the game only shares a player's input amongst others, and everything else is driven by a deterministic simulation. Removing most hacking prospects and lowering overall bandwidth usage.
-
Developed a proprietary Map Editor: Collaborated with artists for game map creation, but also built in capabilities for future user-generated content integration.
-
Engineered a full suite of in-house tooling that streamlined production and allowed artists and designers to focus on the fun!
-
Built with "Hot-fixing" in mind. All balanceable aspects of the game, such as champion abilities, powers, items.. etc., are all built to allow immediate changes that can be shipped instantly to players via a CDN.
-
Has all the essential features to ensure stability and growth, from auto-bug reporting, performance analytics, gameplay analytics, balance analytics, user manual support and adaptive performance.
-
Writing automation systems that handle the content pipelines, asset importation and optimizations for each targeted platform.
Art Direction and Team Management:
-
Provided technical support to a dedicated art team, ensuring all assets were effectively integrated into the game, while also ensuring visual harmony and player immersion.
-
Using my experience in the art pipeline, I helped guide the optimization of assets delivered by artists and gave feedback that helped them avoid certain pit-falls in the future.
Mentoring (Leadership Role):
-
I’ve helped guide a few juniors during their early game development and unity experiences.
Quality Assurance and Performance Tuning:
-
Piloted rigorous QA procedures, identifying bugs, discrepancies, and optimization opportunities.
-
Improved gameplay mechanics iteratively, relying on both internal and external testing feedback.
